Merric Boyd was an artist who lived in Murrumbeena from 1913 until 1959, the year of his death. Over the course of many generations members of the Boyd family have been involved in creative pursuits including painting, ceramics, sculpture, literature and architecture. Over the course of Merric's long life in Murrumbeena, he and his wife Doris, also an artist, established at their Murrumbeena home a community that was guided by liberal and humanist ideals, and valued above all else the pursuit of the individual's creative spirit. Writers, painters, poets, sculptors and others who understood and suppported these ideals were drawn to this community and welcomed by the Boyds. Nowhere in Australia has there been an artistic community like it. A unique combination of people, time and place allowed it to establish and flourish, and influence Australian art and culture in a profound and permanent way... This book is a celebration of this complex man and his achievements, and of the community in which he lived." Introduction. Part1 - Merric Boyd in Murrumbeena. Part 2 - The interviews. The Boyds and the Murrumbeena Community.
