Summary: The "Polly Woodside", Melbourne's famous sailing ship that celebrated its centenary in 1985, is moored at what was for 100 years a busy commercial dry dock, known as Duke's & Orr's Dry Dock. Over the years, thousands of ships were dry docked within its unique wooden walls and mitred gates to undergo maintenance and repairs. This publication is in two parts, the first part is Woodley's recollections of his time spent in the late 1940s as a shipwright, the second part chapters on the River Yarra graving docks, the early owners, reconstruction to amalgamation (1901-1910), later developments and closures (1910-1975) and the Yarra Dry Docks today (1985).
