Preface: In writing these reminiscences of early Australian life, I have endeavoured to portray, as truthfully and as accurately as my memory carries me back to that past time, the history of the settlement of Port Phillip, now known as Victoria, and of the taking up and occupation of the outlying Crown Lands of New South Wales, bordering on the north of the Murray River, and then, as now, forming the boundary-line between the two colonies.
