‘On 19 January 1863 a partnership was drawn up between Moorhead and Young (the company’s representatives in Australia) who held a half share, William Landsborough (the explorer), holding a quarter share, and E.G. Cornish and N. Buchanan, each holding one eighth share. This was the partnership that was known in Queensland as the Landsborough River Company. The area possessed by the company was 2193 square miles.’
‘Bowen Downs, the name given to an immense plain discovered by Landsborough, and so named by him in honour of the present Governor of Queensland, lies beyond the extreme boundary of the settled districts (settled in the squatting sense only) between Carpentaria and the Darling River. (16 March 1866).’
