Notes:
This book, A Pictorial Guide to the Long Lost Lancefield and Kilmore Railway (LKR) is about a short-lived, politically inspired cross-country Victorian line. The LKR was opened in 1892, closed five years later, inexplicably reopened in 1900 and finally closed in 1903. It had six new well equipped small stations, many trestle bridges, several very deep cuttings and high embankments, and was very expensive to build. Its total length was 30.4 km long, and had to transverse the steep Mount William Range and two creeks which flooded in heavy rain. In spite of repeated promises it was disasterously under-patronised by passengers and primary producers, and was a financial failure. Only light engines could use it, and they travelled very slowly. This 114 page hard-cover book is full of contemporary colour photographs and several old black and white photographs. It documents the LKR, and guides readers, both locals and visitors, to locations where it can be viewed. The book also includes ten carefully selected geocaching locations.
