Each section focuses on one particular lighting technology and the lamps and systems that were investigated by the Victorian Railways, whether or not they were eventually selected for trial or use on the railway system. Because the history of railway lighting of platforms, buildings and yards closely mirrored the development of lighting in the wider community, brief notes about the history of each technology are provided.
