Royce Harris from the Cinema and Theatre Historical Society (CATHS) takes us on a journey of cinema-going from the 1920s to the 2020s. As seen through the history of the Rivoli theatres in Camberwell. The original Rivoli was opened in 1921 then replaced by a classic Art Deco building in 1940. This was converted to twin cinemas in 1968. Then substantial renovations in 2000 extended the Rivoli Twin to an 8-screen complex, retaining the Art Deco style.
The presentation includes a large selection of images from the CATHS archive.
This presentation was the 2023 Bruce Turner Lecture
