Summary: "Collingwood Football Club's biggest wins have not necessarily been the Magpies' greatest victories. Big wins are often recorded against indifferent opposition and the contests can be rather boring as a spectacle. Nevertheless it's interesting to analyse these huge wins and who was on the receiving end. The margins range from 175 points to 75, with four matches tying for 100th place, thus extending the total under review to 103. St Kilda and North Melbourne both appear 16 times, Hawthorn 8 and South Melbourne 8. Because they have not been in the league for long, interstate team do not come into the picture as much. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Fitzroy, despite some lean years from time to time, appears only thrice compared with five by Carlton and Essendon who have been more consistent performers. Does this mean Fitzroy was always competitive against Collingwood, even in its darkest days? Perhaps the rivalry between the pair brought out the best in the Maroons despite their standing. Thirteen of the biggest margins were gained in the five years from 2009-2013. By comparison in the six years from 1926-31, which included the Magpies' four consecutive premierships, there were only nine winning margins of 75 points or more. In the three-year period from 1970-72 there were nine such margins comprising three in each season, which underlines the strength of the side in this era although it did not win a flag"--Preface.
