Summary: |
The Victorian Riverina bioregion covers the area of north-central Victoria commonly known as the Northern Plains. It is well known for its diverse and highly productive agriculture, also for its wildlife, which includes many rare species. Historical clearing for agriculture has removed much of the habitat upon which this wildlife relies, so that most of the remnant habitat occurs in small fragments scattered across the landscape. It is these fragments that offer hope for the future of wildlife in the region.
This book draws on the combined experience of six wildlife experts from the Arthur Rylah Institute for Environmental Research. It describes the past and present wildlife of the Victorian Riverina, and provides positive guidelines for managing the region's wildlife and preventing further decline. |
