The town of Vincent was created following the split of the Perth City Council into four separate municipalities on 1 July 1994. Bordering with the City of Perth on its southern boundary, the suburbs of the Town are: Highgate, Leederville, North Perth, Mount Hawthorn and parts of Perth, Mount Lawley, East Perth and West Perth. These represent some of the very early suburbs which developed after the settlement of Perth, and they contain a rich heritage. The photographs in this book form part of the Local History Photographic Collection, and were selected for the stories they tell. The accompanying quotes are all from interviews conducted as part of our oral history projects. This book provides a glimpse into the early life of the area from 1902 to 1962, when the iconic Beatty Park was constructed for the Seventh British Empire and Commonwealth Games. (Cover.)
