Col. ill. on lining papers. Patsy Adam-Smith has learned the stories of some of our Outback Heroes in her own encounters with them; others she has uncovered in newspapers and journals, some in the writings of Outback chroniclers like Henry Lawson, Mary Gilmore, and Mrs Aeneas Gunn. These tales of 'immense and mad endeavours' need to remain part of our folk memory - along with the knowledge that for each remembered here, there are hundreds whose stories will never be told - heroes who risked and sometimes lost all in those unmapped territories of the Australian outback.
