Melbourne Zoo has been an iconic part of Melbourne for 150 years. To celebrate their sesquicentennial, the Zoo had a beautiful book created that showcased their history and was filled with lots of big, glossy pictures of their animals and gardens. Sold within the zoo’s retail stores and online, the plan was to create the kind of book you could open at any page and gain something from.

To make the book easy to dip in and out of, it was written as an extended timeline, filled with facts from the zoo’s and Australia’s history. The timeline was supported by stand-alone interviews with pivotal people, and larger, break-out sections for more detailed stories. To complement the zoo’s 150th branding their 150th logo – the elephant waving three ribbons from its trunk – was incorporated into the design of the book.
