Notes: |
The diaries and photographs of Ben Edgcumbe give an insight to what life was like for member of the Australian Field Artillery, in action, behind the lines, after the Armistice, and waiting for their turn to come home.
Connie Edgcumbe nee Jackson also kept diaries, at home in Malvern, Victoria. Though brief and more domestic, she records the daily writing and receiving of letters from Ben, work, visits, shopping, news from abroad and Melbourne, and the comings and goings of family and friends.
Emily Jackson, Connie's sister, trained with the Salvation Army Bethseda Hospital and joined the Australian Army Nursing Service on 19th December 1916 and was sent to India on 26th December 1916. Emily eventually came home to nurse returned servicemen and Caulfield Hospital.-Back cover.
