My story is not special, my story is not unique, my story is not more important than the next person's. However, the inspiration for this book about mental illness comes from personal experience. As the granddaughter of someone with schizophrenia, my Oma has inspired me to compile this book comprising of a collection of stories about mental illness. I hope that this book will decrease the stigma of mental illness and increase the awareness of the issues that families, friends and carers and the people living with mental illness face on a daily basis.The aim of this book was to find the stories behind the statistics. Statistics show mental illness does not discriminate. From the wealthiest to the poorest, from the city to the country. There is a massive spectrum of stories to be shared and this book displays the courage, kindness and idiosyncrasies of people's experiences of mental illness within our country.
