Notes:
Introduction: I never set out to write poetry. I was always of the mind that more people should read poetry and less people should write it. A horrible notion but one I strongly believed in. Things changed when I was diagnosed with exceedingly bad kidney failure. I was told I needed a kidney transplant. One of the side affects of kidney disease is a lack of concentration. It is a side affect that hit me hard. I could no longer sit and write for hours as I did before. I still can not do this. In order to feel like I was still remaining creative, I started writing a poem a day for about 3 months. It allowed me to shoot out short sharp and emotionally charged writing in bursts of energy, like blowing a bubble and watching it pop. Once I started doing this I realised that the poems had bee inside me all along, lurking in the darker recesses of my brain and heart. This collection was very difficult to gather together as the possibilities were endless. So a huge thank you to my editor Ros McFarlane, for suggesting the final order of the collection and being an all round wonder. I would also like to thank heartbreak, wine, sex, fearlessness and the constant battle that ranges between my mind and body. Happy reading Jessica Knight
