Onemda was established in 1969 by a small, but committed group of parents and local community members. Onemda operated out of the Donvale Sports Pavilion with volunteer support until moving into its current location in Doncaster East in 1977. Onemda has predominately provided day services for adults with intellectual disabilities throughout this time. Onemda provides support options to adults with intellectual disability on campus and in a variety of community venues. Onemda has a number of specialised programs and supports, with an emphasis on individual needs and interests, developing skills and enriching lives. This thorough, discursive and often questioning account of innovative ideas, legistlative development and attitudinal change and policy make this story compulsive reading for professionals, trainees and lay people alike.
