"First published in Australia - 2004 by Australian Military History Publications"--T.p. verso. Bowler was the only New Zealander to serve on the Staff Corps of ANZAC at Gallipoli in 1915. As a Beach Landing Officer, Corps Provost Marshal and the first ANZAC beach commander on Gallipoli, he was in a prime position to fully observe the campaign as it progressed. Dr Frank Glen's book provides a study of the only New Zealanders to serve on the Staff Corps of ANZAC at Gallipoli in 1915. Glen traces the career of a sensitive, thoughtful, efficient and courageous officer - Lieutenant-Colonel Edmund Bowler. As a Beach Landing Officer, Corps Provost Marshal and as the first Anzac Beach Commander on Gallipoli, Bowler was in a prime position to fully observe the campaign as it progressed. However, Bowler paid the price for telling the truth about the shortcomings of the high command and he was overlooked for any awards. This book is also about ANZAC and the great fight for the Dardanells and will be of interest to both Australians and New Zealanders. Bowler was also the officer in charge of the Provosts during the infamous and contentious Haret el Wasser in Cairo.
