The Bible Christian Church originated in1815 from the work of gifted evangelist William O'Bryan in Devon and Cornwall. It was an offshoot of Wesleyan Methodism which had sought to confine his work. The church journeyed with Cornish and Devon miners and settlers and flourished in Canada, Australia (mainly South Australia and Victoria) and New Zealand and established a mission in China.
