First published as a serial in the Sydney Mail in 1864.

Set in the 1850s in a farming community west of Sydney on the Nepean River. It tells the story of an abanded child who grows up with two spinster lady farmers, a most unusual "family". This is a domestic novel, dealing with human relationships, giving us a picture of life as it was often lived by woman in the colony. (Cover.)
