Amy's mother Elizabeth Aitken, was born in Melbourne in 1846, the fourth of nine children of David Aitken and Elizabeth Dryburgh. David and Elizabeth had arrived in Melbourne as newly weds from Fife, Scotland in 1839 and would make their mark in the early days of the Port Phillip District and colony of Victoria.
